By Horace Palacio: Belizeans are set to experience a shift in weather conditions Tuesday night as a cold front approaches, bringing showers and thunderstorms to central and northern parts of the country, the national meteorological service said.
The day will begin with mainly fair weather, characterized by sunny skies and a few cloudy spells. Isolated showers are expected during the daytime, with conditions worsening by evening as the cold front draws closer.
Temperatures are forecast to peak at 90°F (32°C) inland and 86°F (30°C) along the coast, with cooler highs of 77°F (25°C) in the hills. Overnight lows will drop to 73°F (23°C) inland, 79°F (26°C) on the coast, and a brisk 67°F (19°C) in the hills.
Marine conditions will remain choppy to moderate, with easterly to southeasterly winds of 10-20 knots and waves between 3 and 6 feet. Mariners are advised to exercise caution as conditions may worsen with the front’s arrival.
The tropical weather outlook indicates no cyclone activity in the North Atlantic, Caribbean Sea, or Gulf of Mexico for the next 48 hours. However, forecasters warn of increasing rain and thunderstorms tonight and into Wednesday morning, with the most significant impact expected in central and northern regions.
Rainfall is expected to ease by Wednesday night, becoming confined to southern and coastal areas, according to meteorologist Crystal Rosalez.
Today’s tides include a morning low at 7:03 a.m., followed by a high at 1:13 p.m. The next low will occur at 5:49 p.m., with a high tide just after midnight. Sunset is at 5:16 p.m., with the moon rising at 9:07 p.m., though cloud cover could obscure visibility.
The meteorological service has urged residents to monitor updates as the cold front progresses, potentially bringing localized flooding and hazardous travel conditions.
