By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Belize participated in the Regional Policy Dialogue for Boosting Trade Enablers to Leverage Agrifood Systems and Food Security in the Caribbean held in Miami, Florida on November 19-20, 2024.

The Ministry of Economic Development said the Government of Belize was represented at this pivotal event by Leroy Martinez, Acting Director of the Climate Finance Unit in the Ministry of Economic Development, and Dr. Victoriano Pascual, Chief Agriculture Officer at the Ministry of Agriculture, Food Security, and Enterprise.

The primary objective of the dialogue was to identify areas of collaboration between the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) and the Caribbean countries, including Haiti and Belize. The focus was on enhancing regional coordination, fostering knowledge and evidence-based innovations, and leveraging expertise to support the development of trade policies addressing the needs of the Caribbean region.

Discussions also included critical topics such as navigating trade and food security in a world increasingly affected by climate change. This collaborative effort aimed to bolster the resilience and sustainability of agrifood systems across the Caribbean, ensuring food security and economic stability in the face of ongoing global challenges.
