PLB Semifinals: Port Layola host Progresso in decisive clash Sunday

By Rubén Morales Iglesias: The Premier League of Belize (PLB) is set for a high-octane weekend featuring the second leg of the semifinals. Defending champions and second-seeded Port Layola will face third-place Progresso at the Marion Jones Sporting Complex in Belize City on Sunday, November 24, at 4:00 pm.

Port Layola head into this match with a significant advantage after securing a 4-2 victory in the first leg. Their triumph was marked by a spirited comeback after Progresso’s Trimayne ‘Pepa’ Harris opened the scoring with a penalty in the 6^th minute. Port Layola’s Latrell Middleton equalized with a penalty in the 32^nd minute, followed swiftly by a goal from Shawn Young a minute later. Young added another goal early 49^th minute, and despite a second goal from Harris in the 71^st minute, Akeem Sutherland sealed the victory for Port Layola in the 89^th minute.

The stakes are high as both teams prepare for a match that will determine who advance to the finals. Progresso will need a heroic performance to overturn the deficit and secure their place in the finals as the defending champions, Port Layola, are favoured to win.

In another crucial semifinal, Verdes will host the San Pedro Pirates at the Edmund Marshalleck Stadium in Benque Viejo del Carmen on Saturday, November 23, at 7:30 pm.
