Police charge Abraham Shal in killing of Johnathan Leonardo

By Aaron Humes: This afternoon, Saturday, police formally arrested and charged Abraham Levi Shal, 33, of Masaan Street, Maya Mopan area, Belmopan City, Cayo District for the Crime of Murder.

Shal is accused in the killing of Johnathan Leonardo, 18, of Duck Run II, Cayo District, on Wednesday night.

At Divinas Restaurant and Bar compound located at Mile 47 on the George Price Highway, according to police, Leonardo along with two other friends went inside and Jonathan ordered beers at the counter. He and Shal had a confrontation with him and Shal left. To avoid further problems, police say, he stayed in the bar a couple minutes and then exited the bar and went inside his vehicle along with two of his friends and when he was about to drive off, Shal allegedly approached him from the driver side of the vehicle, telling him off. He then reversed to exit the compound passing close to Shal, who allegedly fired a shot in the direction of Leonardo through the windshield causing fatal injury.

Police say Shal was reminded of his Constitutional rights and was cautioned. He requested a phone call to his attorney Norman Rodriguez which was granted to him.
