By Aaron Humes: Belize’s smallest (5,400 population per the 2022 census) and southernmost municipality is finally getting some attention.
Cabinet has given its approval for works to be carried out for tourism enhancement in Punta Gorda Town and in southern Belize through modern infrastructure and marina development.
This project, it said in a press statement, is set to significantly enhance Punta Gorda’s tourism offerings while driving economic growth in the south of Belize.
The Executive also approved the extension of hours to weekend operations at the Punta Gorda Port of Entry. This will be paired with targeted marketing to boost traffic in Southern Belize, thereby leveraging the Toledo District’s natural attractions and cultural heritage.
The ruling People’s United Party continues to hold both Toledo seats in the National Assembly following Dr Osmond Martinez’s victory in the Toledo East by-election in July.
