Premier League of Belize: Port Loyola shock San Pedro Pirates 3-0 in First Final

By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Port Loyola took the lead in the 2024-2025 Premier League of Belize Opening Season Finals by beating San Pedro Pirates 3-0 at Ambergris Stadium in San Pedro on Saturday night.

Port demonstrated great calmness and resilience, putting on a dominant and masterful performance on the Pirates’ home field on Saturday night, securing a 3-0 lead ahead of the definitive second leg this coming Sunday.

Regular season top scorer, Rene Leslie, opened the scoring in the 16^th minute, putting the visiting Belize City side ahead 1-0. Colombian forward Andrés Orozco made it 2-0 in the 25^th minute by converting a penalty kick.

Despite the Pirates’ forays into Port’s defensive territory in the second half, they couldn’t get the ball past Colombian keeper Oscar Palomino. Orozco sealed the game in the 73^rd minute, allowing Port to head home for the second leg with a more-than-comfortable 3-0 lead.

The return match is set for 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, December 7 at the Marion Jones Sports Complex, with Port entering as favourites to repeat as champions.
