By Aaron Humes: The family and friends of the late Andy Vivian Palacio mark his 64th birthday today, December 2. A memorial mass will be held this evening at St Martin De Porres Roman Catholic Church in Belize City.
After illness, the artiste and cultural ambassador passed away suddenly in January of 2008.
Born in Barranco, Toledo District, Palacio was exposed to music from a young age. After working various jobs including in education he made it a full-time career, hooking up with Pen Cayetano, Egbert ‘Mime’ Martinez, and other pioneers.
Palacio produced a series of hit albums at the height of his career and hosted an early television program on Channel 5, Great Belize Television.
But it was his last album, Wátina, that propelled him to superstardom internationally and also brought to the fore the likes of the late Paul Nabor, Aurelio Martinez, and the Garifuna Collective.
May he continue to live on in glory.
