By Breaking Belize News Staff: Jaylen Williams Brown, a 27-year-old construction worker of Lacroix Boulevard, has been fined $105 after pleading guilty to possession of 13.2 grams of marijuana, slightly exceeding the legal limit of 10 grams.
Brown appeared in Court #7 late Thursday evening, where he admitted to the charge and was spared a custodial sentence. The Magistrate imposed a fine of $100, plus a $5 court cost, with a payment deadline of December 31, 2024. Failure to pay will result in a one-month prison term.
The marijuana was discovered in Brown’s left back pocket earlier today during a police search near his home on Lacroix Boulevard. This marks his first conviction for drug possession.
Brown’s case highlights the narrow margin for legality under Belize’s decriminalization laws, which allow possession of up to 10 grams of marijuana.
