Ministry of Infrastructure Development closes San Ignacio-Santa Elena Low-Lying Bridge for maintenance

By Rubén Morales Iglesias: The Ministry of Infrastructure Development and Housing (MIDH) has announced the temporary closure of the Santa Elena-San Ignacio Low-Lying Bridge, effective from Tuesday, December 3, to Sunday, December 15, 2024.

The MIDH said the temporary closure is necessary to assess the substructure and to perform essential maintenance and repair works on the bridge once the flood waters caused by Tropical Storm Sara recede.

During this period, the townsfolk are advised to use alternative routes, specifically the Hawkesworth Bridge and the New Macal Bridge, to facilitate their travel between San Ignacio and Santa Elena.

The MIDH said it regrets any inconvenience caused by this temporary closure but emphasizes the importance of these maintenance works to ensure the safety and longevity of the bridge.
