By Horace Palacio: Residents and visitors in Belize can expect a day of sunshine interspersed with cloudy spells, according to the latest forecast issued by the National Meteorological Service. A gusty northerly airflow is currently dominating the country’s weather patterns, bringing with it cooler temperatures and choppy seas.
While showers will be isolated throughout the day, the south can anticipate a few showers or light rain tonight and into tomorrow morning. Temperatures along the coast will peak at 85°F (29°C) and drop to a comfortable 74°F (23°C) in the evening. Inland areas will experience slightly warmer temperatures, reaching 86°F (30°C), while those in the hills can expect a cooler day with highs of 73°F (23°C).
Mariners are urged to exercise caution as the northerly airflow is generating moderate to rough sea conditions with waves reaching 5-7 feet. A small craft caution is in effect due to the occasionally gusty winds and locally rough seas.
Looking ahead, Wednesday is predicted to bring cloudy spells with a few morning showers or light rain, primarily along the coast. These showers are expected to become more isolated as the day progresses.
Today’s tides will see a low at 5:46 AM, followed by a high at 12:02 PM. Another low tide will occur at 4:40 PM, with a final high tide expected at 10:50 PM.
This forecast was issued by Catherine Cumberbatch of the National Meteorological Service.
