Alleged car battery thief remanded to jail

By Breaking Belize News Staff: A 42-year-old Belize City labourer, Barrington Elrington Miller, is spending time behind bars after failing to secure bail on a theft charge.

Miller appeared in the Belize City Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday, where he was arraigned on a single count of theft. According to allegations, on December 2, 2024, at #20 Neal’s Pen Road, Belize City, Miller dishonestly appropriated a $300 Atlas Dynamic vehicle battery.

Miller pleaded not guilty to the charge and was offered bail of $1,000 with a surety of the same amount. However, he was unable to meet the bail conditions and was remanded to the Belize Central Prison.

The court imposed strict conditions on Miller’s bail, including attending all court dates, refraining from contacting or being within 100 yards of the complainant, and avoiding any similar offenses. Failure to comply would result in the revocation of his bail.

Miller is scheduled to return to court on January 22, 2025, where his case will be heard in Court #5.
