By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Ministry of Agriculture Extension Officers based in Belize and Cayo Districts are participating in a two-day workshop entitled “Good Agricultural Practices for Sustainable Agriculture.” Sponsored by the International Organization for Cooperation on Agriculture (IICA) and conducted at the Ministry of Agriculture, Food Security, and Enterprise (MAFSE) in Belmopan, the workshop seeks to keep extension officers updated on critical sustainable agricultural practices.
The workshop aims to enhance the knowledge and skills of the extension officers, ensuring they are well-equipped to support farmers in implementing sustainable agricultural practices. These practices are essential for improving crop yields, maintaining soil health, and ensuring the long-term sustainability of agriculture in Belize.
MAFSE said the participants are studying soil management, water conservation, pest control, and climate-smart farming techniques.
By the end of the workshop, the extension officers should have a deeper understanding of sustainable agricultural practices and be better prepared to assist farmers in adopting these methods. This initiative is part of MAFSE’s ongoing efforts to promote sustainable agriculture and ensure food security in Belize.
