By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Belmopan Mayor Pablo Cawich addressed price compliance, inflation, and high living costs in a recent meeting with Lennox Nicholson, Controller of Supplies from the Supplies Control Unit within the Ministry of Agriculture.
“The conversation focused on addressing inflation and high living costs by exploring strategies to enforce price control compliance across businesses in Belmopan,” the Belmopan City Council said in a statement.
Cawich was accompanied by Councilor Chris Enriquez and the Belmopan City Council team, in his meeting with Nicholson, during which they discussed the current challenges faced by consumers due to rising prices and the measures needed to ensure businesses adhere to price control.
“The initiative underscores a commitment to ensuring that businesses adhere to the Government of Belize’s regulated pricing measures, providing residents with fair pricing and alleviating economic pressures,” the Belmopan City Council said.
Mayor Cawich and Controller of Supplies Nicholson looked at the steps that the Supplies Control Unit will take to monitor and enforce price controls and emphasized the importance of protecting consumers from unfair pricing practices.
Mayor Cawich and Controller Nicholson underscored their collaborative commitment to fostering economic equity and consumer protection, with the view of enhancing the quality of life in Belmopan.
