Belize Electricity Limited says no countrywide power outage on Sunday

By Aaron Humes: Belize Electricity Limited (BEL) has announced it will not have a countrywide power outage on Sunday, December 8 – at least not a planned one.

The power company in a statement said it “is aware of a fake post being circulated on social media purportedly from BEL announcing a countrywide power outage on Sunday, December 8. BEL hereby assures our customers and the public in general that no such outage is planned for Sunday or any other day.”

BEL asks that customers stay tuned to their BEL 24-7 App or the BEL website for accurate information and updates.

Of course, BEL’s assurances do not preclude something unusual such as a fault on a power line, some mishap such as a traffic accident, or even a fault in Mexico cutting off CFE-produced power to Belize.
