Gradual increase in moisture brings cloudy skies and showers to Belize

By Horace Palacio: Belize is set to experience a shift in weather patterns as a surge of moisture moves over the country today. The National Meteorological Service of Belize (NMSB) has issued a forecast predicting increased cloud cover and scattered showers, with a higher likelihood of rain in southern regions. This change marks a departure from the recent dry conditions, bringing much-needed moisture to the country.

The NMSB anticipates a gradual increase in moisture throughout the day, resulting in cloudy skies at times and the development of isolated showers or areas of light rain, especially over southern Belize.

Despite the increased cloud cover and showers, temperatures will remain warm across the country. Coastal areas can expect highs of 83°F (28°C) and lows of 73°F (23°C), while inland regions will experience slightly warmer temperatures, reaching up to 85°F (29°C). Those in the hill regions will experience cooler temperatures, with highs of 71°F (21°C) and lows of 62°F (17°C).

Marine conditions are expected to be moderate, with E-NE winds blowing at 5-15 knots. This will generate wave heights of 4-6 feet, typical for this time of year. Boaters and those engaging in water activities are advised to exercise caution.

Looking ahead, the NMSB predicts a mix of sunny spells and cloudy periods with isolated showers for Tuesday. However, Tuesday night could see an increase in shower activity, with the potential for thunderstorms developing over southern and coastal areas. This increased chance of thunderstorms is attributed to the continued influx of moisture and atmospheric instability.
