By Breaking Belize News Staff: Three Honduran women accused of assaulting a Belizean vendor outside the Lion King Bar remain on remand at the Belize Central Prison. The women—Kimberly Joseth Umanzor Izaquirre, 19; Evelyn Elizabeth Carranza, 20; and Karol Melissa Juarez Castro, 20—were denied bail due to their lack of fixed addresses and uncertain immigration status.
The trio appeared unrepresented before a Senior Magistrate in Court #2 on Monday, where they were charged with one count each of harm. The allegations stem from an incident early Sunday morning, December 8, 2024, when 31-year-old Kenia Yasmin Moz, a naturalized Belizean food vendor, was attacked on King Street.
According to Moz’s police report, she was standing with her aunt when the women approached her. One, identified only as Kimberly, allegedly slapped her, while the other two joined in the attack. Moz defended herself during the struggle but sustained injuries, including swelling to her face and an injured elbow.
Due to the women’s lack of permanent residence and their immigration status, the Senior Magistrate denied bail, remanding them until January 14, 2025. The case highlights ongoing concerns about public altercations and immigration enforcement in Belize.
