Rainy and gusty weather persists across Belize, small craft warning issued

By Horace Palacio: Moist and unstable conditions continue to dominate Belize’s weather, bringing periods of rain, isolated thunderstorms, and gusty winds to the region. A Small Craft Warning remains in effect as marine conditions remain challenging.

The Belize Meteorological Service predicts mostly cloudy to overcast skies for the next 24 hours. A few showers, light rain, and isolated thunderstorms will primarily remain offshore during the morning hours. However, this activity is expected to move inland, targeting coastal and southern areas later this evening and into the night.

Marine operators are urged to take caution. Winds are forecast to blow from the north to northeast at speeds of 10 to 20 knots, accompanied by strong gusts. Sea states are anticipated to remain moderate to rough, with waves reaching between 5 and 7 feet. The forecast office has advised small craft operators to seek safe harbor as the challenging conditions persist.

Temperatures across the country reflect cooler seasonal trends, with coastal areas experiencing highs of 77°F (25°C) and lows of 70°F (21°C). Inland and hilly areas are expected to be cooler, with nighttime lows dipping to 65°F (18°C) and 59°F (15°C), respectively.

Looking ahead, Friday morning may bring occasional cloudy skies and light rainfall, mostly concentrated over southern coastal areas. However, a broader increase in shower activity is anticipated Friday night, with coastal regions once again bearing the brunt of the weather system.

Residents are advised to monitor official forecasts and heed warnings, particularly those engaging in maritime activities.
