Bodies of Marvin Cante and John Raymundo removed from shallow grave in Hattieville

By Aaron Humes: Police have confirmed that the bodies of missing taxi operators Marvin Cante and John Raymundo of Belmopan were recovered from a shallow grave in the Hattieville area on Thursday morning.

The bodies were said to display chop wounds; in fact, they were reported to have been dismembered to fit in the grave, one on top of the other. They have been removed to the morgue for further examination.

The men were last heard from on November 26 and were last seen somewhere on the Coastal Highway near La Democracia. They were heading from Belmopan to the Belize District but something went wrong along the way. The next day, their vehicle was found with the engine still idling and blood on the car seat.

Assistant Commissioner of Police Hilberto Romero, Officer Commanding Eastern Division told reporters that one suspect is already in police custody. Police have not established whether the crime scene was at the grave site or elsewhere and officially refused to speculate on a motive, but inside sources suggest it may be drug-related.

Investigations continue and these are confirmed to be the first murders reported so far for the month of December.
