By Breaking Belize News Staff: Travis Tyler Navarro, a man who previously beat a murder charge, is once again in legal trouble after being hit with a series of charges stemming from incidents involving his estranged girlfriend and his time in police custody.
Navarro, who claims to reside between Handyside Street and Majestic Alley, appeared in court over the past three days to face charges including threat of death, possession of cocaine, and possession of a blade.
On Tuesday, December 10, 2024, Navarro appeared in Court #2 to answer to a charge of threat of death. His estranged girlfriend reported to police that on Friday, December 6, Navarro threatened her by allegedly saying, “I wah kill yuh.” Navarro pleaded not guilty and was offered bail of $500 with conditions, including staying 50 feet away from the victim and avoiding contact with her. His next court date for this charge is January 17, 2025.
On Monday, December 9, Navarro was brought before Court #6 for possession of cocaine allegedly found on him while in detention at the Queen Street Police Station. He pleaded not guilty and was granted bail of $800 with his case adjourned to February 10, 2025.
In Court #4, Navarro also faced a charge of possession of a blade for carrying a 4-inch knife, which he explained was used for punching holes in coconuts for his juice-selling business. The magistrate dismissed the charge, ruling that the knife did not meet the legal definition of an offensive weapon.
Earlier this week also, Navarro was initially charged with burglary related to his estranged girlfriend’s home. However, the charge was dismissed after the court found the particulars of the complaint insufficient. This charge was later replaced with the threat of death charge he now faces.
Navarro, who describes himself as a freelance entrepreneur making natural juices, claimed his detention caused significant losses, as his products spoiled while he was in custody. He has denied the allegations and expressed frustration over the impact on his business and personal life.
Navarro is set to return to court on January 17, 2025, for the threat of death charge and February 10, 2025, for the possession of cocaine charge.
