By Aaron Humes: While he has yet to be charged for the alleged stabbing of Elmer Blair on Saturday evening, December 14, 29-year-old Paul Moro appeared in court on Monday and pleaded guilty to possession of a blade.
Moro has no fixed address and told the court he is currently staying on Racoon Street in Belize City.
Moro admitted to carrying a knife with a 3 ½ blade on December 14, believed to be the instrument used to stab Blair. He was fined $200 and cost of court to be paid by January 29, 2025, in default two months in prison. Moro previously owed court debts that need to be paid in order for him to be released.
According to police, they found the blade in Moro’s bag while detaining him for the alleged assault on Blair and believed it to be the same instrument used to stab Blair.
However, one of Moro’s close friends told our court reporter that he and Blair are good friends and that allegedly it was Blair who attacked him first after police approached a group of five that included them and warned them against loitering and drinking in public. Moro began to move away with the bottle of liquor from which they were all drinking and left with it in his back pocket to avoid the police. An annoyed Blair punched him in the face, joined by the other men, and Moro lashed out in defense of himself and allegedly inflict the knife wounds to Blair.
