By Rubén Morales Iglesias: The Belize Fisheries Department has announced the commencement of the 2025 commercial fisherfolk license renewal process, starting Monday, January 6, 2025. Fishers will be granted a grace period for renewals until Friday, January 31, 2025.
Fishers are advised to take all pertinent documents upon renewal to ensure a smooth process. Licensing renewals will be conducted for various communities at the Belize Fisheries Department Office in Belize City on the dates specified below:
Renewal Dates and Communities:
Date | Communities |
January 6 – 10 | Belize City fishers and other fishers from Belize District, except San Pedro and Caye Caulker. |
January 13 – 17 | All fishers from Corozal District (including Chunox, Copper Bank, Sarteneja, etc.), and all fishers from Orange Walk District. |
January 20 – 24 | All fishers from Stann Creek District (including Dangriga, Hopkins, Riversdale, Seine Bight, Placencia, Independence, etc.). |
January 27 -31 | All fishers from San Pedro & Caye Caulker, and all fishers from Cayo District. |
Fishers from Punta Gorda and other communities in the Toledo District should renew their licenses only at the Punta Gorda Fisheries Department Office, effective January 6, 2025. Applications from these communities will not be accepted at the Belize City office.
The Fisheries Department emphasized the importance of fishers renewing their licenses on the specified dates for their respective communities to ensure an efficient and organized process.
The Fisheries Department said applications for new licenses will only be received from February 3, 2025, onwards and will be processed starting March 2025.
