Woman charged with attacking police officers executing search warrant

By Aaron Humes: Cowpen, Stann Creek District villager Mabeth Acosta Ortiz has been charged with aggravated assault after a search at her house got violent on Friday morning.

According to a police report, on December 20 about 9:50 in the morning, police conducting an anti-drug operation in Cowpen visited the residence of Ortiz to execute a Search Warrant for Controlled Drugs and illegal Firearm.

As a Detective Constable began the search, Mabeth Ortiz approached her and slapped her hands, police allege. She began to behave disorderly and a struggle ensued. Ortiz turned around and kicked another Police Corporal in the groin area and she was arrested and escorted to the police station.

After the attacked officers gave their statements, police formally charged Ortiz for two counts of Aggravated Assault.

There was no indication of whether police found anything before the search was stopped.
