By Breaking Belize News Staff: Two teenagers, aged 18 and 15, are out on bail after being arraigned earlier this week on charges of robbery by use of force. The accused are 18-year-old Randy Cain, a laborer from Hattieville Village, and his 15-year-old minor relative, a student.

The duo appeared unrepresented before the Chief Magistrate in Court #1, where they were accused of robbing a man on December 18, 2024. The allegations state that they used force to steal a black Samsung cellphone and an ATM card.

Both teenagers pleaded not guilty to the charge. The police prosecutor strongly objected to bail, citing the prevalence of the crime, overwhelming evidence against the accused, and the risk of reoffending. The prosecutor also noted that the stolen items were recovered with the assistance of the defendants and raised concerns about a trend of similar robberies involving groups of young men on bicycles.

Despite these objections, the Chief Magistrate granted bail to both defendants under strict conditions. Bail was set at $2,500 plus one surety each. The 15-year-old minor was released into the care of his father and must reside at his father’s Belize City address instead of Hattieville. Both defendants are required to report to their respective police stations weekly—Cain to the Hattieville Police Station and the minor to the Racoon Street Police Station. Additionally, they must remain 100 yards away from the victim, have no contact with him, and attend all court dates.

The case has been adjourned to February 21, 2025.
