By Horace Palacio: Belize is set to experience another day of relatively moist and unstable weather, according to the Belize Meteorological Service. Today, January 3, 2025, cloudy spells will dominate the skies, with a few showers or periods of rain expected primarily along the coast during the day and shifting to southern regions tonight.
Marine conditions remain moderately challenging, with north-northeast winds at 5-15 knots. Wave heights are expected to range between 4 and 6 feet, prompting a moderate sea state. Mariners are advised to remain vigilant, especially in open waters.
Temperatures will reflect the ongoing wet season, with highs along the coast reaching 80°F (27°C) and lows dropping to 72°F (23°C). Inland areas will see slightly warmer conditions, peaking at 82°F (28°C) during the day and cooling to 68°F (20°C) overnight. In the hills, temperatures will range from a daytime high of 70°F (21°C) to a cooler low of 63°F (17°C).
Looking ahead to Saturday, cloudy spells are expected to persist, with a few showers concentrated in southern areas during the day and night. The lingering moisture and instability suggest that these wet conditions may continue into the weekend.
Tidal changes for today include a low tide at 6:51 AM, a high tide at 12:57 PM, and another low tide at 6:18 PM. Tomorrow’s early high tide is set for 12:25 AM. Sunrise occurred at 6:23 AM, and sunset is expected at 5:30 PM. The moon rose at 9:29 AM and will set at 9:19 PM tonight.
Forecaster Francisca Wellington advises residents in coastal and southern areas to prepare for intermittent rain and wet conditions. Those engaging in outdoor activities or planning marine excursions should remain cautious and monitor weather updates closely.
