By Horace Palacio: Belize is experiencing a shift to fairer weather conditions today, January 4, 2025, as a moderate northerly airflow prevails over the country. According to the Belize Meteorological Service, sunny skies with occasional cloudy spells are forecast for most areas during the day. Tonight, skies will be partly cloudy, with isolated showers expected across the country, except in the south where a few showers or periods of rain may occur.
Marine conditions are expected to be moderate to rough, with north-northeast winds blowing at 10-20 knots and occasional gusts. Wave heights are forecasted between 4 and 7 feet, influenced by northerly swells. A small craft caution is in effect, and operators are urged to exercise caution due to gusty winds and locally rough seas.
Temperatures today will be cool and comfortable. Coastal regions will see daytime highs of 82°F (28°C) and nighttime lows of 72°F (22°C). Inland areas will reach highs of 84°F (29°C) and drop to 66°F (19°C) overnight. In the hills, the temperature will range from a daytime high of 68°F (20°C) to a nighttime low of 60°F (16°C).
Looking ahead, Sunday and Sunday night are expected to bring fair weather with isolated showers, offering a calmer end to the weekend as the moderate northerly airflow continues to stabilize conditions.
The tidal schedule for today includes a low tide at 7:31 AM, a high tide at 1:35 PM, another low tide at 7:22 PM, and tomorrow morning’s high tide at 1:22 AM. Sunrise was at 6:24 AM, and sunset is scheduled for 5:31 PM. The moon rose at 10:09 AM and will set tonight at 10:16 PM.
Forecaster Catherine Cumberbatch advises small craft operators to remain cautious and follow safety guidelines due to the gusty winds and rough seas. Residents in southern areas should be prepared for isolated showers and periods of rain tonight.
