Fair weather prevails in Belize ahead of approaching cold front

By Horace Palacio: Belize is set to experience mainly fair weather today, January 6, 2025, with sunny skies and occasional cloudy intervals dominating the forecast. However, changes are expected later in the day as a cold front approaches. The Belize Meteorological Service predicts isolated showers in the morning, with a few showers and isolated thunderstorms developing over inland and northern areas this afternoon. These conditions are expected to spread across most of the country tonight.

Marine conditions will remain choppy to moderate, with light east-southeast winds at 0-10 knots. Wave heights are forecast between 3 and 6 feet. Mariners are advised to exercise caution as conditions may change with the incoming weather system.

Temperatures will be warm during the day, with highs of 83°F (28°C) along the coast, 87°F (31°C) inland, and 72°F (22°C) in the hills. Nighttime lows will drop to 72°F (22°C) on the coast, 66°F (19°C) inland, and 61°F (16°C) in the hills.

The outlook for Tuesday indicates more significant weather activity, with a few showers, isolated thunderstorms, or light to moderate rain expected throughout the day. Rainfall will linger along the coast and in southern areas on Tuesday night as the cold front advances.

The tidal schedule today includes a low tide at 8:53 AM, a high tide at 2:59 PM, another low tide at 9:56 PM, and a high tide early tomorrow morning at 3:52 AM. Sunrise was at 6:24 AM, and sunset is expected at 5:32 PM. The moon will rise at 11:25 AM today and set at 12:09 AM tomorrow.

Forecaster Crystal Rosalez advises residents and travelers to prepare for changing conditions, particularly those in inland and northern areas this afternoon. The potential for thunderstorms and increased rainfall tonight signals the arrival of a cooler and wetter weather pattern as the cold front moves closer.
