Motorist reports armed encounter on highway near Dangriga

By Aaron Humes: One person has been detained after 43-year-old resident of Belmopan, Brian Requeña, detailed a threatening encounter with the driver of a Dodge Ram pickup truck while traveling along the Hummingbird Highway, en route to Mango Creek Village.

Around 3:00 PM Monday, as Requeña was behind the wheel of his cream-colored Ford Escape approaching the Pomona Police Station, he attempted to overtake a Dodge Ram truck, signaling his intention with the appropriate indicators. However, as he maneuvered his vehicle, the Dodge Ram driver allegedly swerved into his lane, forcing Requeña to apply his brakes and fall back behind the truck.

The vehicles continued along to Hope Creek Village, where he attempted to overtake the Dodge Ram again at a pedestrian ramp. He claims that the truck swerved into his lane once more, prompting him to stop and exit his vehicle to question the driver about the dangerous behavior, asking “What happened?”.

Requeña reported that a slim-built Asian male, dressed in a black t-shirt and blue shorts, emerged from the vehicle, allegedly brandished a black handgun and pointed it at him. Fearing for his life, Requeña quickly backed away, and the armed driver drove off in the direction of Dangriga Town.

In the wake of this alarming incident, Requeña has formally requested court action against the unidentified driver, who has since been detained and his Glock 19 pistol retrieved for exhibit.
