Weak cold front brings cooler weather and light rain to Belize

By Horace Palacio: Belize is experiencing the effects of a weak cold front today, January 8, 2025, bringing cloudy skies with occasional sunny breaks. According to the Belize Meteorological Service, a few showers or periods of rain will develop along the central and southern coasts during the day, gradually becoming isolated by evening. Tonight, skies are expected to clear slightly, transitioning to partly cloudy conditions.

Marine conditions are moderate, with north-northeast winds blowing at 10-20 knots and wave heights ranging from 4 to 6 feet. Mariners are advised to navigate cautiously, particularly in exposed areas where winds and waves may intensify.

Temperatures today will remain cool and comfortable. Coastal areas will see highs of 80°F (27°C) and lows of 72°F (22°C). Inland regions will peak at 81°F (27°C) during the day, dropping to 67°F (19°C) at night. In the hills, temperatures will range from a daytime high of 70°F (21°C) to a nighttime low of 60°F (16°C).

The outlook for Thursday and Thursday night indicates mainly fair conditions with only isolated showers expected, signaling an improvement in weather as the cold front weakens further.

Tidal patterns today include a high tide at 5:30 AM, a low tide at 10:28 AM, and another high tide at 4:45 PM. Tomorrow morning’s low tide is expected at 12:33 AM. Sunrise occurred at 6:25 AM, and sunset is set for 5:33 PM. The moon will rise at 12:49 PM and set at 2:09 AM tomorrow.

Forecaster Catherine Cumberbatch advises residents in central and southern coastal areas to prepare for light rain during the day. Marine operators should remain cautious due to moderate sea conditions.
