By Breaking Belize News Staff: Jermaine “Horse” Garnett, a 42-year-old resident of Jasmine Street employed under the LIU Program cleaning Belize City streets, is now a free man after an abetment to robbery charge against him was withdrawn.
On Monday, January 6, 2025, Garnett appeared before a Magistrate in Court #5, where he received the news that the virtual complainant no longer wished to proceed with the case. The prosecution subsequently withdrew the charge, effectively clearing Garnett and his co-accused, Tyrese Usher, of any wrongdoing in the matter.
The charges stemmed from an alleged robbery on August 21, 2024, on Central American Boulevard, where a truck driver reported being held at gunpoint by two men on a motorcycle who made off with $8,000 in cash and a $25,000 cheque. Garnett was accused of aiding Usher, who was initially charged with robbery.
Both men pleaded not guilty at the time of their arraignment, and Usher had the robbery charge against him dropped in September 2024. Garnett, who spent time on remand before being granted bail, said this was his last brush with the law.
Speaking outside the courtroom, Garnett expressed relief and vowed to turn over a new leaf, saying, “Jail is not a place I liked or wish for anyone.”
Garnett says he now looks forward to continuing his work under the LIU program and building a crime-free future.
