International News: Los Angeles devastated as wildfires ravage communities

Posted: Friday, January 10, 2025. 3:46 pm CST.

By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: A massive wildfire in Pacific Palisades has left the upscale Los Angeles neighborhood devastated, with officials estimating over 5,300 structures damaged or destroyed, LA Times report.

The fire, which spread over two days, has turned the once-beautiful community into a wasteland of charred remains, leaving homes, shopping centers, and schools reduced to ashes.

Actor Steve Guttenberg described the scene as resembling post-WWII Berlin, with everything burned down.

Thousands of residents, who fled with little time to spare, now face the challenge of rebuilding their lives. The fire has also spread to other areas, including Altadena, where another 4,000 structures were impacted.

Despite calmer winds, firefighters continue battling the Palisades blaze, which has scorched nearly 20,000 acres.

While crews have contained some fires, others, like the Sunset fire near Runyon Canyon, are still a threat.

Thousands remain evacuated, and authorities are monitoring the situation closely as further high-wind events could worsen conditions.
