By Aaron Humes: A family dispute involving a father, his son, and the son’s stepfather escalated into violence, resulting in the son being sent to prison. The incident happened at a home on King Street in Belize City. Keron Alexander Coote, a 29-year-old babysitter, is accused of attacking his father and his stepmother.
Coote appeared in court facing charges of aggravated assault against his stepmother, wounding her, and common assault on his father. Although his father asked for one of the charges to be dropped, the court did not allow it for the other two charges. This was because when the stepmother came to the court to request the withdrawal, she didn’t have her identification to prove her identity.
The stepmother returned to court with her identification, but the prosecutor decided to postpone any action on the case. Coote was then sent to Belize Central Prison until January 16. The magistrate mentioned that the prosecutor would revisit the withdrawal of charges next week.
The charges relate to an incident on January 8, when Coote allegedly injured his stepmother and attacked his father during a heated argument. The reasons behind the violent outburst remain unclear.
