Man charged after couple catch armed burglars near Princess Hotel and Casino

By Aaron Humes: Police have arrested and charged 40-year-old Tyron Lee Humes of Belize City with two counts of aggravated assault following a report of a burglary of a van in progress early on Sunday morning.

Police spoke to a man and woman of Belize City who reported that they were leaving the Princess Hotel and Casino and heading toward where their van was parked on Newtown Barracks. They saw two dark-skinned men who appeared to be searching the inside of the van.

As they approached, one of the men pulled out a firearm and pointed it at the van’s owner, who drew back and called for police assistance. The burglar advanced toward him and punched him in the left side of his forehead, causing him to drop his cell phone and damage the screen.
