By Breaking Belize News Staff: Melbourne Wade, a 32-year-old salesman and car dealer from Belama, finds himself at a critical juncture as three of his alleged scam victims withdrew their charges against him on Friday morning. Wade, accused of swindling down payments for vehicles from at least eight individuals, claims he is a changed man working to repair his reputation and mend fences with those he wronged.
One high-profile victim of Wade’s alleged schemes is former Belize City Mayor Zenaida Moya, whose case against him remains pending trial in Court #5. Wade currently faces four active cases after three victims chose to discontinue legal action.
On Friday morning, two female victims appeared before separate courts to request that their charges against Wade be withdrawn. Their decision follows a similar move by Floyd Ford earlier this week. However, the saga is far from over, as one of the women immediately initiated civil proceedings to recover her lost funds. Wade has reportedly agreed to repay her in installments, signaling his commitment to addressing the financial fallout of his alleged scams.
Outside the courthouse, Wade expressed optimism and pledged to make amends, stating, “I am not the con artist people have made me out to be. I’ve made bad choices, but I am working to prove that I can change and move forward.”
Describing the accusations against him as the result of “bad business” rather than deliberate deception, Wade emphasized his intention to resolve matters amicably and avoid further jail time. He served a previous stint in September 2024 and insists it will be his last.
With his next court appearance scheduled for January 30, 2025, Wade remains under scrutiny. His case with Moya, along with three others, still looms, but he remains hopeful that additional charges might also transition to civil court.
