Teenager cut with boxcutter after altercation with elderly man in Belmopan

By Aaron Humes: A 17-year-old student is recovering in the Western Regional Hospital after a violent altercation on Monday afternoon. The victim, from Roaring Creek Village, sustained a severe cut to the right side of his back during an encounter with a local man.

According to initial reports, the incident occurred around 3:30 p.m. when the youth and a fellow student were walking through the Central Walkway. They were approached by an unemployed older man. An exchange of words escalated quickly when the victim inquired about the other man’s unpleasant smell. He retaliated with profanity and attempted to confront the students. In a split-second reaction, the teenager punched the older man in the face before turning to leave the scene.

The older man then allegedly retaliated by using a box cutter to inflict a deep cut on the 17-year-old’s back, measuring approximately 12 inches in length. He was rushed to the Western Regional Hospital for emergency treatment and kept overnight following surgery. The accused attacker has been detained.
