By Breaking Belize News Staff: Three Honduran nationals who were involved in a physical altercation with a hot dog vendor in December 2024 have been convicted of causing harm in the Belize City Magistrate’s Court. The women—Kimberly Joseth Umanzor Izaquirre, 19; Evelyn Elizabeth Carranza, 20; and Karol Melissa Joarez Castro, 20—pleaded guilty to the charges on Friday after initially denying the allegations.
The incident occurred on Sunday, December 8, 2024, at around 3:10 a.m. on King Street, where the victim, a naturalized Belizean food vendor, reported being attacked. She stated that one of the women, identified as Kimberly, slapped her, while the other two joined in, leading to a struggle that left her with swelling on both sides of her face and an injured left elbow.
After changing their pleas to guilty, the women were fined $300 each, along with a $5 court cost, to be paid immediately or face three months in prison.
In mitigation, Carranza admitted, “What I did was wrong. I know it was wrong, and I ask for leniency.” Izaquirre echoed this sentiment, saying, “I also ask for forgiveness. I know I broke the law in Belize and will never do it again.” Castro added, “I have a hundred excuses, but this will be the first and last time I get into trouble.”
Following their sentencing, the court summoned the Belize Immigration Department to verify the women’s immigration status, as they were reported to have no fixed address.
The Immigration Department’s involvement will determine the women’s status in the country and any potential further action.
