By Horace Palacio: Belize will experience a slightly moist north to northeasterly airflow today bringing changes to the weather. The Belize Meteorological Service forecasts partly cloudy to cloudy skies with scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms, particularly along coastal areas this morning. By the afternoon, this activity is expected to increase, spreading across most regions. Tonight, showers and thunderstorms will primarily affect the southern parts of the country.
Marine conditions will vary between light chop and choppy, with north-northeast winds at 5-15 knots. Wave heights are expected to range from 2 to 5 feet, making the waters manageable but slightly unsettled. Mariners should remain cautious, especially as weather activity intensifies later in the day.
Temperatures will remain comfortable, with coastal areas reaching highs of 83°F (28°C) and lows of 76°F (24°C). Inland regions will see slightly warmer conditions, with daytime highs of 84°F (29°C) and nighttime lows of 68°F (20°C). In the hills, daytime temperatures will peak at 76°F (24°C) and dip to 64°F (18°C) overnight.
The outlook for Tuesday suggests a continuation of the pattern, with showers and thunderstorms affecting coastal and northern areas in the morning. These will taper off by the afternoon, but another wave of rainfall and storms is expected to redevelop over most areas by Tuesday night.
Tides for today include a low tide at 8:24 AM, a high tide at 2:13 PM, and another low tide at 9:27 PM. Tomorrow’s early high tide is forecast at 2:53 AM. Sunrise was at 6:26 AM, and sunset will be at 5:41 PM. The moon will set at 10:45 AM and rise again at 11:32 PM tonight.
Forecaster Michelle Augustine encourages residents and visitors to be prepared for changing weather, particularly in coastal and southern areas. Those planning outdoor activities should remain vigilant and plan around potential rainfall and thunderstorms.
