By Rubén Morales Iglesias: The Ministry of Infrastructure Development & Housing has announced that as part of the Caracol Road Upgrading Project, extremely heavy 130-feet-long bridge beams are being transported on the Philip Goldson Highway from Ladyville, along the Burrell Boom Road, George Price Highway, and the Caracol Road to the Guacamallo Bridge in the Cayo District. The beams are being transported between January 21 and February 1, 2025.

Motorists traveling along the Caracol Road may experience delays of up to two hours at narrow sections due to road closures while the beams are repositioned to clear obstacles. The MIDH advises the public to be vigilant and exercise extreme caution when approaching and driving past the heavy equipment that is transporting these reinforced concrete beams. The MIDH also advises drivers to follow traffic warnings and the instructions of escorts, as these beams may take up the entire width of the highway.

“We would like to thank the general public for their kind cooperation in respecting and abiding by these safety precautions and by exercising due care and attention when encountering these extraordinary loads on the highway,” the Ministry of Infrastructure Development & Housing said in a press release on Wednesday.

The MIDH said it appreciates the public’s understanding and patience during this critical phase of the Caracol Road Upgrading Project, which aims to improve infrastructure and connectivity in the region.
