By Breaking Belize News Staff: The murder trial of 23-year-old Malcolm Matthew Muschamp, accused of the January 2022 killing of 25-year-old Dorian Tzac, has been postponed to Monday, January 27, 2025, after his attorney, Arthur Saldivar, requested an adjournment. Saldivar, currently out of the country, informed the court through a letter filed late on January 22.
Justice Derick Pilgrim, who is presiding over the trial, expressed reluctance to grant the adjournment, noting that the trial had been scheduled to continue and the late filing of the request caused inconvenience. Despite this, the adjournment was granted to ensure that Muschamp’s right to legal representation is upheld.
Muschamp, a former resident of Lords Bank in Ladyville, has been on remand at the Belize Central Prison since being accused of fatally shooting Tzac on January 13, 2022, on Antelope Street in Belize City. The trial, which began in May 2024, has seen testimonies from all formal witnesses for the Crown, including Police Constable Christian Young. Five agreed statements have also been read in court.
The substantive evidence that forms the basis of the murder charge against Muschamp has yet to be presented. Crown Counsel Glenfield Dennison, representing the DPP’s office, is prosecuting the case.
The trial is expected to resume on Monday, January 27, 2025, in the High Court before Justice Pilgrim, as Muschamp continues to await his fate behind bars.
