By Horace Palacio: Belize is experiencing cool, moist, and gusty weather conditions today. According to the Belize Meteorological Service, the day will be marked by mostly cloudy to overcast skies, with a few showers, periods of light rain, and isolated thunderstorms expected across the country. Coastal and southern areas are likely to see the most activity as the weather system continues to influence the region.

Marine conditions have become challenging, with winds from the north-northwest at 10-20 knots, strengthening to 15-25 knots from the north-northeast later in the day. The sea state is currently moderate to rough, with wave heights ranging from 5 to 7 feet, expected to increase to 6 to 8 feet. A small craft caution is in effect, and operators of smaller vessels are advised to proceed with care due to gusty winds and locally rough seas.

Temperatures will remain cool throughout the day. Coastal areas will reach highs of 75°F (24°C) and drop to 68°F (20°C) overnight. Inland regions will see slightly warmer highs of 77°F (25°C) during the day and cooler lows of 66°F (19°C) at night. In the hills, temperatures will be noticeably cooler, ranging from a high of 63°F (17°C) to a low of 56°F (13°C).

The outlook for Saturday indicates that a few showers or periods of light rain will persist, particularly in southern and coastal areas, before becoming generally isolated by Saturday night. Cooler conditions are expected to continue, offering a pleasant change for many parts of the country.

Today’s tidal activity includes a high tide at 7:24 AM, a low tide at 11:19 AM, and another high tide at 5:41 PM. Tomorrow’s early low tide is forecast at 1:55 AM. Sunrise was at 6:26 AM, and sunset will occur at 5:43 PM. The moon will set at 1:18 PM today and rise again at 3:02 AM tomorrow.

Forecaster Shanea Young advises residents, particularly those in coastal and southern areas, to prepare for occasional rain and windy conditions. Marine operators should remain vigilant, as rough seas and strong winds could make navigation hazardous. The current weather offers a cooler and more refreshing atmosphere, but caution is recommended for those planning outdoor or maritime activities.
