The European Union (EU) in Belize is pleased to announce the launch of the 2025 EU Creative Arts Competition, a unique platform for all people living in Belize to express their creativity while reflecting on critical human rights and social issues through dance, music, and visual arts.
Respect for human dignity and human rights, freedom, democracy, equality and the rule of law are the fundamental values of the European Union and what inspired the establishment of the EU Creative Arts Competition in 2023.
This year’s competition invites participants to explore the theme of “Human Rights/Empowering Communities & Combating Violence”. Empowered communities are the cornerstone of a just society, where human rights are upheld and discrimination has no place. The European Union advocates for gender equality, standing firmly against all forms of sexual and gender-based violence. This theme invites the public to explore how communities can unite to combat violence and discrimination, creating spaces that protect and uplift everyone, especially vulnerable or marginalised groups.
This theme was selected by the public vote through a poll published on the EU in Belize Facebook page (www.facebook.com/EUinBelize) on the occasion of International Human Rights Day, 10 December 2023, where several human rights themes were proposed to the public. The theme of the competition is the one that received the highest number of public votes.
