By Zoila Palma: On February 7, 2025, the Belize City Council and the Christian Workers’ Union (CWU) officially signed a new Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA), marking a significant step forward in strengthening labour relations.

The signing took place today at City Hall, with key representatives from the Belize City Council, the Christian Workers’ Union, and the Department of Labour in attendance.

“This agreement underscores a mutual dedication to fair labour practices, employee well-being, and a strong, cooperative relationship between the Council and the Union. It exemplifies the value of collaboration, respect, and transparency in achieving meaningful outcomes,” the Belize City Council said.

The Belize City Council noted that the CBA reaffirms their commitment to prioritizing workers-ensuring their rights are safeguarded, their contributions recognized, and their livelihoods strengthened.

The Belize City Council says that it will continue fostering open communication and cooperation with the Union, reinforcing a partnership that drives positive change for the workforce and the wider community.

The agreement, which remains in effect until November 30, 2027, is expected to set a new standard for future labour negotiations within the municipality.
