Police look for triggerman following Friday’s shooting of Ian Reid in Belize City

By Aaron Humes: A 22-year-old Belizean man is recovering at the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital (KHMH) following a gunshot wound to his right wrist. The incident occurred around 4:15 on Iguana Street Extension on Friday afternoon.

The victim, identified as Ian Reid, reported that while walking along Iguana Street Extension and nearing the corner with Antelope Street Extension, he heard a loud bang and immediately felt a burning sensation in his wrist. Reid surveyed his surroundings but could not identify the source of the shot or the shooter.

After the incident, Reid managed to hail a taxi and made his way to KHMH where he received prompt medical attention for his injury.

Officers conducted an initial investigation and canvassed the area around Iguana Street Extension and Antelope Street Extension; however, they found no evidence of a crime scene. Neighbours and passersby were questioned, but no one reported hearing gunshots in the vicinity at the time of the incident.

The police have encouraged anyone with information regarding the incident to come forward.
