Decision 2025 countdown; 90 candidates apply to contest General Elections

By Zoila Palma: The Elections and Boundaries Department received 90 nominations on Nomination Day, Monday, February 24, 2025.

The PUP nominated 31 candidates, the UDP nominated 41 candidates, the Belize Justice Movement nominated 7 candidates, Good Opportunity Development Party nominated 1 candidate, Peoples’ National Party nominated 2 candidates, People’s Democratic Party nominated 4 candidates and 4 Independent candidates.

In addition, in an unprecedented occurrence, the Returning Officers for the Pickstock and Fort George Electoral Divisions respectively declared Anthony Mahler and Henry Charles Usher to have been duly elected since, at 4:00 p.m. on nomination day, only those candidates were nominated in their respective electoral divisions.

The Certificates of Endorsement and Return of Uncontested Election have been forwarded to the Governor General of Belize, as required by law.

As a result, there will be no contested election for the Pickstock and Fort George electoral divisions.
