International News: Legendary actor Gene Hackman, 95, found dead with wife and dog

By Aaron Humes: Oscar-winning actor Gene Hackman, 95; his wife Betsy Arakawa, 63; and their dog were found dead at their home in Santa Fe, New Mexico sometime on Wednesday, the BBC reports.

The Santa Fe County Sheriff’s office stated there is no indication of foul play, and the investigation is ongoing.

Hackman had a prolific career over six decades, winning two Academy Awards, including one for “The French Connection” and another for “Unforgiven.” He appeared in over 100 films, including roles in “Superman” and “The Royal Tenenbaums.”

Born in 1930 in California, Hackman served in the army before pursuing acting. He struggled in the early years but rose to fame in the 1970s.

He was married to his first wife Faye Maltese for 30 years before divorcing in 1986, and he later married Betsy, with whom he kept a low profile.

Hackman indicated he had retired from acting around 2008, choosing to focus on writing novels instead. His reflections on ageing reveal his discomfort with fame and his perception of himself as he grew older.
