By Breaking Belize News Staff: A Sandhill resident is out on bail after being arraigned in the Belize City Magistrate’s Court on a theft charge.
Elon Emmanuel Tillett, 26, is accused of stealing an $850 bed from a woman. The alleged theft took place on January 9, 2025. Tillett appeared unrepresented in Court #5 late yesterday, where he initially pleaded guilty but offered an explanation.
Tillett claimed that the woman had left the bed at his house in 2024 for safekeeping. However, after repeated attempts to contact her with no response, he decided to sell the bed when he encountered financial difficulties. He admitted to selling the item but stated that he did so out of necessity. He also mentioned that he met Haylock through his brother, whom she used to date.
The sitting magistrate, after hearing Tillett’s explanation, advised him to consider seeking legal advice before officially entering a guilty plea. Instead, a not-guilty plea was entered on his behalf, allowing him time to decide on his final stance before his next court date.
With no objections to bail, Tillett was granted self-bail in the sum of $500. His next court appearance is scheduled for May 19, 2025.
