By Breaking Belize News Staff: A 74-year-old man has been charged with aggravated assault and wounding after allegedly attacking another man with a machete. However, in court, he denied committing the crime.
The accused, Christopher Augustus Lamb, appeared unrepresented before a Senior Magistrate in Court #2, where he was read two charges: one count of aggravated assault and one count of wounding. The allegations state that on Sunday, March 16, 2025, on Gulen Street, Belize City, Lamb attacked and wounded another man with a machete.
Before entering a plea, Lamb requested permission to explain his side of the story. He admitted to being charged by police but maintained, “I didn’t do it.” Lamb claimed that he and the complainant’s wife were engaged in an argument when she began calling him offensive names. He alleged that the complainant then emerged with a knife and an iron, threatening him.
According to Lamb, police had confiscated the weapons that were used against him. He further stated that the complainant approached his gate, shook it aggressively, and threatened, “I wah kill yuh, ra–.” Feeling fearful for his life, Lamb said he acted in self-defense and struck him with a fluorescent bulb, not a machete.
After hearing Lamb’s explanation, the Senior Magistrate entered an equivocal plea on his behalf. Lamb was granted bail in the sum of $1,500, which he met. His case has been adjourned until May 2025 as the legal proceedings continue.
