Orange Walk driver granted $3,000 bail after allegedly sexually assaulting 13-year-old girl

By Breaking Belize News Staff: Louis Carlos Cano, 39, an Orange Walk driver, has been released on bail after being charged with sexual assault of a 13-year-old girl. Cano appeared unrepresented before a Senior Magistrate in Court #2 late Wednesday evening.

He was charged with a single count of sexual assault, with allegations stating that on March 8, 2025, on Juventes Street, Orange Walk, he touched the left side of a minor female, aged 13, in a sexual manner without her consent.

Initially, Cano pleaded guilty to the charge. However, when questioned about his understanding of the charge, he stated, “I got by conscious. I know I never do it but…” After further questioning by the Senior Magistrate, and the charge being reread, Cano changed his plea to not guilty.

The Prosecutor, a Sergeant from the Orange Walk Magistrate’s Court, did not object to bail. The Senior Magistrate granted Cano bail in the sum of $3,000 with one surety, or two sureties of $1,500 each, with specific conditions. These conditions include: no interference with the complainant, her family, or any prosecution witnesses; maintaining a distance of 25 feet from the complainant; and reporting to the Orange Walk Police Station weekly, starting this Friday, March 21, 2025.

Cano’s next court date is scheduled for May 26, 2025.
