Robbery in Belize District leaves victim shaken and 10K worth of items stolen

By Aaron Humes: This afternoon around 3:00 PM, a contractor was targeted by two armed assailants at his job site located at 12 miles on the Coastal Road.

The victim was approached by two dark-skinned men wearing dark clothing and masks who emerged from a black SUV. The suspects brandished a firearm and demanded money, forcing him to lay flat on the ground as one of the assailants searched him.

The robbers made off with various jewellery valued at $9,900 and a wallet containing $100 cash, debit and credit cards from Belize Bank, a Social Security card, and a driver’s license.

Witnesses reported hearing gunshots as the perpetrators fled the scene towards La Democracia Village. Upon investigation, a black 2003 Mitsubishi Montero, belonging to another local contractor was found nearby with an apparent bullet hole in the rear right side.

Police are investigating.
