World Tuberculosis Day observed in Belize

By Zoila Palma:  Today, the Ministry of Health and Wellness joins the world in observing World Tuberculosis (TB) Day 2025.

The Ministry says that it continues to engage in the fight against TB by improving early detection across all our health regions, effective treatment, continued training of our healthcare workers and with increased public awareness efforts.

You can visit information booths today in Belize City at the Cleopatra White Polyclinic compound, Punta Gorda Community Hospital, Western Regional Hospital, and at the San Ignacio Community Hospital.

#WorldTBday is being observed under the theme, “Yes We Can TB: Commit, Invest, Deliver”

According to the Belize Health Information System, in 2023, there were 9 deaths from TB.

The data also showed that there were 71 new TB cases in 2023.

The Ministry reminds that eliminating TB required a comprehensive approach.
