By Horace Palacio: Police have charged 28-year-old American Spenser Eisenberg with manslaughter by negligence in connection with the death of 70-year-old U.S. tourist Jeffery Le Beau. Le Beau, a vacationing father and defense lawyer, died while scuba diving off Turneffe Atoll when he was struck by a speeding boat.
Reports say Le Beau was scuba diving in a designated dive zone, clearly marked with caution indicators by a local tour company. Despite these warnings, Eisenberg’s boat reportedly entered the area at high speed, striking Le Beau in front of several witnesses, including his daughter and son.
Eisenberg, who resides in Caye Caulker, was taken into custody and later formally charged. Police continue to investigate whether additional charges may be filed.
Le Beau was widely known in legal circles in the U.S. for his work in manslaughter defense and was described as an “avid waterman” on his professional website.
